PARAMOUNT PSYCHOLOGY

Paramount Psychology does not provide mental health crisis services. If you require immediate/urgent assistance, please contact Emergency Services on triple zero (000). If you are in distress or require crisis support, call Lifeline 13 11 14, NSW Mental Health Line 1800 011 511 or the Suicide Call Back Service 1300 659 467.

Paramount Psychology acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional owners of country throughout Australia, and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures, and to elders both past and present.

  • You don’t need a referral to book a session with us. However, if you are seeing us for counselling for a mental health disorder and you would like to claim the Medicare Rebate, you will need to provide us with a valid referral and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or psychiatrist.

Coaching, proactive wellbeing sessions and supervision are not eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan under Medicare, and you cannot claim the Medicare Rebate for these sessions.

  • Under the Better Access initiative, eligible people can receive up to 10 individual sessions in a calendar year (1 January to 31 December).  However, referrals cannot be provided for the full 10 sessions. A referral is for a maximum of six sessions. Your referring doctor will assess your progress after the first six sessions and determine whether further sessions are needed.

  • Sessions are approximately 50 minutes in duration.

  • Frequency of sessions is dependent on your reasons for seeing us and your level of need. To increase your likelihood of experiencing change and for these changes to be generalisable to your life more broadly, we ask that you commit to attending sessions on a regular basis and that you complete the activities/tasks set of you between sessions.

  • When appointments are booked, the psychologist reserves the whole hour especially for you.  Appointments changed or rescheduled with less than 48 hours notice (i.e., 2 business days) will incur 50% of the full fee. The full fee will be charged for appointments rescheduled or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice (i.e., 1 business day). Missed appointments also incur the full fee. You cannot claim the Medicare rebate for cancelled/missed appointment fees.

  • No. Paramount Psychology is a private clinic, and we work on a fee-for-service basis only.

  • Payment is required on the day of your appointment and is automatically charged to your nominated account, unless you have indicated that you prefer EFT. We do not accept cash or cheque.

  • Coaching and counselling are two different services that we provide. Coaching is intended to enhance professional effectiveness, focus and performance. In contrast, counselling is a therapeutic process that addresses emotional and psychological issues, providing support and treatment for mental health concerns.

  • We strongly believe in working within our areas of competency and skill set. We work with adult clients (18 years and over) and do not provide relationship/family counselling, or treatment for eating disorders, active psychosis or unmanaged bipolar disorder. We also do not work with Workers Compensation matters.

We recommend scheduling a complimentary 15-minute telephone consultation prior to your first appointment, to discuss your reasons for attending and to see if we’re a good match. If during this conversation it’s identified that we’re not the right service for you, we’ll do our best to provide you with information about alternative services which may be able to help.

  • We do not provide crisis services. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency or crisis, you should contact either: Emergency Service on triple zero, Lifeline on 13 11 14, the NSW Mental Health Line on 1300 659 467; or go to your nearest hospital emergency department.

  • Our sessions are confidential. However, this confidentiality is not absolute and under the following situations can be breached by the psychologist:

    • Immediate or specified risk of harm to self or others

    • Legal obligation to do so

    • With the client’s consent (or consent from a person with legal authority to act on behalf of the client)
